Blue
Heron Paper Company is 100% employee owned.
In
May 2000, employees partnered with KPS Special
Situations Fund, L.P., a New York City-based private equity
fund to purchase the Oregon City paper mill that is now Blue
Heron Paper Company. The KPS Fund, as the controlling investor,
owned 60%. The employees owned 40% through an employee stock
ownership plan (ESOP).
In
September 2006, the remaining shares
owned by KPS Special Situations Fund, L.P. were purchased
by the employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) so that the employees
own 100% of Blue Heron Paper Company. In addition to stock
ownership, the plan includes a profit-sharing program and
employee membership on the Board of Directors.
